1st Runner-up Miss Rodeo USA,
Macie Estep
The current reigning Miss Limestone Rodeo, Macie Estep, was named
First Runner-up in the Miss Rodeo USA pageant in Oklahoma City, OK,
this past weekend. Miss Estep competed with a slate of experienced
rodeo queens from across the country during the International Finals
Rodeo that culminated Sunday.
The contestants endured a week saturated with personal visits, media
interviews, competition in poise, speech, fashion, horsemanship,
knowledge of the sport and history of rodeo, as well as appearances
at tourist attractions, schools, hospitals, and senior centers.
The competition is also a means for these ambassadors from their
respective rodeos, to showcase and promote their local pageants and
how they are supported by their local committee in this
international endeavor. Limestone County and all of north Alabama
was well represented.
In what was described as the closest competition in the history of
the Miss Rodeo USA pageant, Miss Estep was mere points away from
capturing the crown. What became more important to those in
attendance, were the comments and observations from total strangers
of how classy she was to all the contestants and the pageant
directors alike. Her compassion and patience were specifically
mentioned when describing her visits with children and senior
citizens.
Sheriff Blakely remarked, “Macie has made all of us proud in how she
represented Limestone County. She has tremendous poise and
character, and she is a great role model in promoting our rodeo. Her
contributions to the sport of rodeo far outweigh the winning of this
single pageant. Many people remarked to us that she carried herself
with much dignity in every appearance she made. We all look forward
to her continued promotion of the Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo and our
Miss Limestone Rodeo pageant in the coming months.”
The 2012 Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo will be held May 18-19, at the
sheriff’s arena on Hwy. 99 in Athens. This rodeo will be our 30th
Anniversary and we will try to make it a very special event.
