Athens was the location of
a seminar for approximately 200 law enforcement officers &
educators to discuss and learn "Why Teens Kill".
Phil Chalmers, teen
homicide expert from Ohio spoke to the local group and
displayed photos from actual crime scenes.
The 10 causes of teen murder, according to Chalmers:
•Mental illness and personality disorder
•Lack of spiritual guidance and proper discipline
•Fascination with the criminal lifestyle and poverty
•Peer pressure
•Fascination with deadly weapons and easy access to guns
•Cults, gangs and hate groups
•Drugs and alcohol
•Anger and depression/suicide
•Obsession with violent media and violent pornography
•Unstable family and bullying at school
