January Events in Athens Alabama

 

Feb. 9th -- Boys and Girls Club of North Alabama will have their Annual Steak Dinner Fundraiser and Auction @ 6:30PM at the Beasley Center. Tickets are $20 per person or $300 per table of eight. Contact JR 256-777-5283 or Sally 256-777-4332 for tickets or more information.

Feb 10th -- Forgiveness Men's Conference with guest speakers Joel Carwile, Pastor of First Baptist Church Athens; Tim Anderson, Pastor of Clements Baptist Church; and Dusty McLemore, Pastor of Lindsay Lane Baptist Church. The conference begins at 5:00PM with dinner and the conference begins at 6:30PM. Cost is $20.00 per person.

Feb. 10th -- The Purple Party Tour at Capshaw Baptist Church takes the stage with two fashion shows, live worship, skits, songs and practical Bible teachings from 6:30PM-9:30PM . Several packages available for this event.

Feb 11th -- Open House at Whistle Hollow - Wedding & Event Venue Come tour the Whistle Hollow's venue without any strings. Whether you are looking for ideas for your upcoming wedding, reception, or corporate event and are considering Whistle Hollow this open house is for you! No appointment or RSVP necessary. The venue fully set up to show its full potential from 10:00AM-2:00PM. A great way for currently booked clients and potential clients to come see the venue fully set up. Light Refreshments will be available through our onsite catering, Endless Catering Door prizes and other surprises.


Feb 11th -- Women's Conference: Love Is Supreme Ticket sales are underway for "Love is Supreme," the 2017 Women's Conference to be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at Shanghai First Baptist Church, 13435 Elk River Mills Road in Athens. Dr. Betty Dean Newman is guest speaker. Lottie Partridge is the praise and worship leader. Lunch will be provided. No child care available. Tickets are $10. Feb 11th -- Ardmore Veterans Stew The Ardmore Veterans will hold a fundraiser stew starting at 11:00am and until the stew is gone. The stew will be prepared by the Ardmore Volunteer Fire Department and is eat in for $5.00 or take out stew for $25.00 per gallon (bring own container). The Ardmore Fire Department is located at the Police Station on Main Street in Ardmore, AL.

Feb 11th -- Spirit of Athens Chocolate Walk Fall in love with Downtown Athens, AL. Ticket holders enjoy a chocolate treat, sweet deals, and a chance to win a door prize from each participating business during this prelude to Valentine's Day. Only 200 tickets available for this chocolate affair!

Feb 11th -- Athens State University SGA & BSC Present Movie Night Double Feature with free popcorn, free beverages and other concessionsavailable in McCandless Hall Auditorium located on the campus at 300 North Beaty Street in Athens. From 5:30PM-7:15PM the family can enjoy Inside Out. From 7:30PM-9:30PM will be Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them. Free admission and open to the public.


Feb 11th -- The Ardmore Baseball Diamond Club will host its 8th Annual Drawdown Dinner at the Limestone County (114 West Pryor Street Athens) starting at 6:00PM. Over $4,000 in prizes will be given away including a $3,000 Grand Prize. Second Place is $500 and Third Place is a Yeti Cooler. The first ticket drawn will win $100. Several auction items to be featured include use of a Gulf Coast condo, Alabama Football Tickets, and Tennessee Titan Tickets. Cost of admission is a $100.00 which admits two people and includes dinner for two. You do not have to be present to win. All proceeds go to Ardmore Baseball Team. Feb 11th -- 31st Annual Black History Program Trinity Class of 1966 will hold its 31st annual black history program at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Village View United Methodist Church at the corner of Plato Jones and Hine streets. The program will observe the national theme "The Crisis In Black Education" and is dedicated in memory to classmate and former Athens City Councilman Jimmy W. Gill and all other deceased classmates. Feb 12th -- Valentine Spaghetti Dinner West Highland Baptist Church invites the public to its Valentine's spaghetti supper and silent auction with a newlywed-oldlywed game. The event is set for 5-7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, in the Christian Life Center at the corner of Hine Street and Fifth Avenue in Athens. A $7 plate includes spaghetti, bread, salad, iced tea and dessert. Supper at 5 p.m. followed by auction and games. Proceeds go to the church Youth Ministry. Donations accepted.

Feb 14th -- Coffee Pairing - Valentine's Edition Join Grounded Coffee 12120 County Line Road starting at 6:30PM for Coffee and Truffles from Pizelle's. Tickets will pre-sell our limited number of tickets for this pairing: $20/couple or $10/single (yes, singles are invited and welcome too). If you don't pre-buy, the door prices are $25/couple or $13/single. This event is open to anyone, and no tasting experience is required. Feb 16th -- Silvery Moon at Yesterday's Senior Lunch Matinee Show at 15631 Brownsferry Road in Athens. February's featured performers will be the Silvery Moon with a collection of Big Band favorites. All seating is reserved - $12.00 each, groups are seated together, doors open 10:30am, events start at 11AM with seating, opening announcements, blessing, and lunch, with show beginning about 12 noon.(About 1 hour show) They have bus parking available, e-mail reservations are required info@yesterdaysevents.com.


Feb 16th -- Open Conversation on Race Brewer Library on the Tanner Campus of Calhoun Community College at 11:00AM. Join the Black Students' Alliance Club and facilitator Mr. Art Leslie the Director of Huntsville Inner City Learning for an open discussion on race. Free and open to the public


Feb 18th --Elkmont Hound Dog Half-Marathon starts in downtown Elkmont at 8:00AM. Beautiful, CERTIFIED (USATF #AL15062JD) half marathon through the rolling hills of Elkmont, Alabama. The course begins in downtown Elkmont and heads out into the country on the rolling rural roads. An additional 100 spots have been added to the original 400 of the January 21st event.

Feb 18th -- Limestone Cares will be having a benefit Barbecue Dinner & Cake Auction for our Standing Tall with Jordan Campaign. This event will be held on February 18th, 2017 @ 5:00pm at the West Limestone Fire Department off Highway 99. Tickets are $15ea and a purchase gets you a full bbq meal and a bid number for the cake auction. There will be some mighty fine cakes made by some excellent bakers right here in Limestone County! Who knows, we may have a few other auction items besides cakes to auction off as well! Feb 18th -- Hospice of Limestone County Chili Challenge. Suzanne Paysinger is the new director of Hospice of Limestone County replacing Pat King who retired after 28 years as the first director. There are still team slots available if you are interested, however teams are urged to sign up as soon as possible.

Feb 21st -- The Athens-Limestone County Public library is proud to be partnering with the Limestone County Republicans to bring Alabama Supreme Court Justice Tom Parker to Athens. He will present a talk on the Christian foundations of early American law. He will give the talk twice on the same day, once from 3:00 to 4:00 and again from 6:00 to 8:00. Both presentations are free and open to the public.


Feb 25th -- Alabama Bass Trail Tournament - Wheeler Lake The Alabama Bass Trail returns to Wheeler Lake for their February 25, 2017 tournament. Up to 225 boats will come to fish for a variety of Bass -- Smallmouth, Largemouth, and Spotted. They will set out from Ingalls Harbor in Decatur with refueling, docking and food available on the water at Lucy's Branch Marina on the shores of Limestone County. Registration Closed. Tournament will recorded by Fox Sports Southeast and aired in July.


Feb 26th -- Fairview Baptist Church invites the public to an evening of music with Bradley Walker starting at 5:30PM at 27550 Nick Davis Road in Athens. Bradley Walker known for his country, bluegrass and gospel hails from Athens, Alabama. He's performed with a variety of acts including The Gaithers.

Feb 26th -- 2-S Spring Series 2017 Join 2-S Arena for their Spring Series 2017 Barrel Racing Series at the 2-S Arena 26155 Thach Road in Athens, Alabama starting with Exhibition Barrels at 12:00PM to 2:30PM with the show starting at 3:00PM. Membership is $25.00 for individuals; Family $40.00 (same household) Day Permits: $10.00; class competition rates vary.
