May 7th - 13th  -- National Travel and Tourism Week  was established by a congressional resolution in 1983, as a week to champion the power of the Travel and Tourism industry. This year’s theme shines a spotlight on the power of travel by recognizing the millions of people who keep this industry strong: the Faces of Travel. This industry supports the livelihoods of more than 15 million Americans -- from front-line workers at restaurants, hotels, theme parks, airlines, tourism associations and other travel and tourism attractions and events to behind-the-scene workers like graphic designers, transportation workers, logistics, administrative personnel and others who are part of the indirect travel and tourism workforce that support the industry. #SupportTravelandTourism - go travel and thank those who make it possible along the way

May 12th -- Relay for Life of Limestone County comes together at the Limestone County Event Center (114 West Pryor Street in Athens) from 6:00PM to Midnight on May 12th to honor those lost to cancer, to celebrate those who have won the battle, to recognize those who have stood by those with cancer and to raise awareness. The event is free to attend. Variety of team tents, goods and concessions will be for sale to continue the fundraising to end cancer through research by the American Cancer Society.

May 12th -- Cruise In and Crawfish Boil with Redstone Harley-Davidson (15100 AL-20 or Exit 3-Greenbrier on I-565) from 11:00AM-7:00PM.  Bring your souped up classic car, bike or big boy toys out to show off and chow down on some amazing grub from Red Mountain crawfish Plus cool yourself down with some amazing cold beverages Redstone H-D will have on tap from Yellowhammer Brewing.

May 13th -- Limestone County Sheriff's Rodeo Parade Lineup begins at 10:00AM - groups and individuals welcome. Sheriff Blakely and the Grand Marshal will lead the parade starting at 11:00PM, featuring Queen contestants, cowgirls, and cowboys of all ages on horseback along with many buggies and wagons. More info

May 14th -- Celebrate Mothers's Day in Limestone County with over 100 restaurants to choose from for a special meal.  Take her fishing on the Tennessee or Elk River and try to land a record Bass or Catfish.  Stroll, bike, kayak, or drive one of our 20+ themed trails.  Need more ideas?  Check out this blog post with other ideas.

May 14th -- 2-S Arena Spring Series Join 2-S Arena for their Spring Series 2017 Barrel Racing Series at the 2-S Arena 26155 Thach Road in Athens, Alabama starting with Exhibition Barrels at 12:00PM to 2:30PM with the show starting at 3:00PM.  Membership is $25.00 for individuals; Family $40.00 (same household); Day Permits: $10.00 plus division fees.  For more information:  Mindy Sanders 256-278-5758 or Wil Sanders 256-246-0628

May 17th – History of the American Red Cross with Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association’s Community:Engage Series.   Grab a lunch and enjoy the talk about the creation and history of the Red Cross in the Meeting Room of the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center 100 North Beaty Street in Athens from 11:30AM-1:00PM.    For more information: 256-232-5411

May 17th -- Street Dance and Fashion Show on the Limestone County Courthouse Square in downtown Athens starting at 6:00PM with the Jeff Whitlow Country Band, line dancing, western fashion show. More Info

May 18th -- Tourism Day at the Ardmore Welcome Center at I-65. South bound travelers are amazed at the hospitality of the Tourism activities shown as they stop to stretch their legs and take a break. Enjoy free soft drinks, cake and lots of free items from Hotels and restaurants. Stop by from 10AM-2PM. 

May 18th -- Senior Lunch Matinee with Yesterday's Event Center (15631 Brownsferry road in Athens) May's featured performers will be "Elvis Remembered" featuring Michael Dean.  All seating is reserved - $12.00 each, groups are seated together, doors open 10:30am, events start at 11AM with seating, opening announcements, blessing, and lunch, with show beginning about 12 noon.(About 1 hour show) They have bus parking available, e-mail reservations are required info@yesterdaysevents.com

May 18th -- 26th Annual Athens State University Alumni Golf Classic is the largest annual scholarship fundraiser for the Alumni Association with all proceeds awarded for the 2017-2018 academic year. This is a 4 person scramble. Course rules, scores and rain delays are determined by Canebrake and will be conveyed the day of the tournament.  10:30 am Lunch and Check-In; 11:30 am Shotgun Start; 5:00 pm (approx.) Dinner and Prizes  REGISTER

May 18th -- Slack Day at the Limestone County Sheriff's Rodeo (AL-99 in Athens) will feature team roping.  Gates open at 8:00AM, Slack begins at 9:00AM.  Admission is $5.00  More Info

May 19th -- Singing on the Square Limestone County Courthouse Marion Street Athens, AL.   Join the Athens-Limestone County Tourism and sponsor Jimmy Smith Buick GMC for a free concert starting at 6:00PM with Contagan and Temple of Blood at 7PM. This is our first Heavy Metal band, playing tunes of the 80’s.  Be sure to bring your lawn chair and maybe some ear plugs. Rain location is the Vietnam Veterans Bldg 17915 W Elm St, Athens. Next month’s band will be Trippin Dixie on June 16th.

May 19th & 20th -- Limestone County Sheriff's Rodeo (Arena AL-99 in Athens) starting at 6:00PM on Friday and Saturday with a variety of activities for the family including Kids' Gold Rush, Pony Rides, Rodeo Clowns and Specialty acts.   More Info

May 20th -- 4th Annual Eli's Block Party Come enjoy the fun and help raise money for childhood brain cancer. This is a judged show with trophies, and cash prizes for registered participants. Winners are invited to a dinner in December for an exclusive car show. Eli's Block Party is free to attend for the public, and anyone can bring a vehicle and show it off for free. Enjoy music, food, and vendors.  More info

May 20th -- The Flashback Dinner Show at Yesterday's Event Center with your favorite songs from the 60's to 80's including Motown, Disco and some of today's favorites too. Show details: Cancellation policy applies. May 27th -- 3rd Annual Catfish Literary Festival -- 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Come meet local writers and celebrate the arts at Athens-Limestone County Public Library’s 3rd Annual Catfish Literary Festival. We’ll have 20+ local writers signing their books, author panels, and nature photography by local photographer Denise Grisham. The Little Kitchen food-truck will be serving up gumbo, fried catfish, and more! This event if free and open to the public. May 29th -- Memorial Day Program with the Alabama Veterans Museum   Maj. Gen. James Simpson will be the guest speaker at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives' annual Memorial Day program at 11 a.m. at the Limestone County Event Center (114 West Pryor Street in Athens). The event is free and the community is invited.

May 29th -- Crawfish Happy Hour with Redstone Harley-Davidson (15100 AL-20 or Exit 3-Greenbrier on I-565) from 11:00AM-7:00PM.  Redstone H-D has spiced Happy Hour up with friends at Red Mountain Crawfish, so come on down to Redstone Harley-Davidson to enjoy the crawfish, shrimp, oysters and more plus cool yourself down with some amazing cold beverages Redstone H-D will have on tap from Yellowhammer Brewing
